Muttville Senior Dog Rescue is holding an adoption event this Saturday, March 7 in San Francisco at Muttville Headquarters: 255 Alabama St. (corner of 16th). Muttville’s mission is to change the way the world thinks about and treats older dogs and to create better lives for them through rescue, foster, adoption and hospice. Through associations with shelters and other animal organizations, Muttville finds senior dogs that have been given up and are not likely to find adopted homes.  Learn more here.

Can a vegan diet save the world? According to a new report from the UN, the answer is “yes.”The Guardian writes that “a global shift towards a vegan diet is vital to save the world from hunger, fuel poverty, and the worst impacts of climate change.” The report notes that the Western preference for meat- and dairy-heavy diets is “unsustainable,” especially as the population is expected to grow to 9.1 billion by 2050.

From the ALDF blog on 2/24/15: On January 22, ALDF offered a $5,000 reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction after a Sacramento puppy was found burned to death on a North Sacramento street. The 8-9 month-old puppy had been locked in a dog crate and burned alive. Although this grim case sickens us, we are announcing some great forward movement: thanks to the dedicated work of the Sacramento SPCA, the Sacramento County Sheriff’s department, and the Sacramento Metro Fire department, an arrest has been made.
